Ventnor SAC Awards Night

Mr Mark Birch, Vice Chairman of Sandown inshore life boat was the special guest at the Ventnor Angling and social club awards presentation last week where he was presented with a cheque for £500 by club chairman Garreth Butt. Mr Birch thanked all the anglers involved in the 22 hour charity open which raised a total of £1000. A further £500 will be used to support Jill Waterhouse who takes young adults with leaning difficulties on fishing trips.
           

Club shore champion Damian Geldard received a total of seven awards including the heaviest bag in competition, Sunday league and Christmas competition winner as well as a prize fund of £159.
The league runner up Tony Simpson picked up trophies for the heaviest fish on bottom gear, best Ray, most specimens over 50% and £92 in vouchers.

Jason Warne took the boat championship as well as            Debbie Burt was ladies champion in

Runner up in the boat and Sunday leagues, heaviest Dogfish, Wrasse and flat fish went to me as well as the tiddler’s trophy for the smallest weight in competition. Tony Burt was third in the boats he also recorded the best Mullet of the year and won the boat fishing race with fishing partner Jason Warne. Alan Bravery was the highest placed member in the open boat competition and had the heaviest fish in boat competitions and Gareth Butt recorded the best new club record of the year with a Rocking of 1lb 7-1/2oz @ 113% of the island record as well as the Cod cup. Shaun Graham had the heaviest shore caught Conger, Bass and Dogfish and the best overall specimen.  
Ryan Bravery won the junior section and trophies for the heaviest Pouting, Flat fish and was top junior in the Christmas fixture. Katie Mitchell was second overall in point’s competition had the best junior specimen and the heaviest fish. Lucy Geldard picked up a trophy for third place in the Sunday league which was quite an achievement as this was her first year fishing

The Clubman of the year was awarded to Garreth Butt and Tony Simpson won services to the club. The helping hand awards for social events went to Tony and Debbie Burt and the leaner trophy for the lowest overall weight in competitions went to Ivan Mitchell. There were also two special awards presented by the club for Jason Warne who received the Titanic clock for accuracy in competition and the platterpus award to myself for my work on entertainment over the year. Flowers were also presented to Christine Basham, Debbie Burt, Angie Wilson Jenny Bravery and Gwen Armstrong for there support, and to Eunice for supplying the food.
