Ventnor angling & social club presentation evening





Ventnor angling & social club held their awards presentation evening last Saturday where the Chairman Mr Garreth Butt welcomed the 40 guests and thanked the committee, members and sponsors for all there help in 2007. The 2007 club championship trophy went to Shaun Graham who was awarded with twelve trophies including the heaviest fish in the Ventnor area, the heaviest bag of fish in competition the second best specimen and a new club record Shore.  The Ladies championship shield went to Debbie Burt who also won the Barlow Cup for fish of the year with a Flounder of 3lb 1-3/4oz and won six others trophies including ladies boat champion. I was presented with seven awards including the boat championship, the best Wrasse Shore and boat in the Ventnor area, two fish of the months and a new club record for a Trigger fish of 2lb 2oz. Garreth Butt received the A. J. Phillips Cup for the heaviest Ray the T. Perkins Tankard a fish of the month and equaled a club record.  Tony Burt took third place in the boat section, the Colin Wager Flounder Trophy boat, two fish of the months and a new club record. Jason Warne was second in the boat section and won the T. Perkins Cup for the heaviest Bass in the VASC area and a fish of the month.  Mark Smith had the best specimen in the boats, a fish of the month and a new record with an Undulate Ray of 17lb 13oz. George Campbell picked up the Dennis and Williams Cups, a fish of the month and was presented with the special life members revolver award from the committee.  Alan White had the best Bass of the year and two fish of the month awards. Alan Bravery took the Blenheim Cup for second place in the Christmas competition and the Colin Wager Trophy best 3 Flounders from the shore. Bravery also won the fishing boat race pairs trophy with Bill Armstrong who had the best flat fish from a boat.  Richard Bravery won the Renta Welder Trophy and Ashley Bravery had the second best ray from the shore. Geoff Butt received the Learner Shield and Damian Geldard the member’s trophy for winning the Christmas competition.  In the junior section Ryan Bravery picked up six awards including junior club champion and first and best specimen a fish of the month and two club records. Katie Mitchell had a very good year and only just missed out in the championship taking second place. She also won awards for the heaviest bag in competition and the junior trier’s trophy for a 100% effort.  Daniel Farrow had three awards for the heaviest flat fish, second top junior in the Christmas comp and was third in the junior league. There were a number of social and special awards awarded by the members with Angela Wilson and Tony Burt getting the extra yard awards for services to the social events. Tony Burt also won the duck billed platypus for the biggest booboo of 2007 when he lost his rod and reel over the side of the boat.  Geoff Butt was awarded the conservation award for his work on conserving fish stocks and Jason Warne won the titanic clock for his vigilance in the boat section.  The last awards of the evening went to Pete Campbell for clubman of the year and Alan Bravery for services to the club. The club wish to thank Ventnor social club for the evening especially Sue, Eunice and Daryl.

Ventnor angling & social club




Ventnor committee with helpers and people from Haylands
Last November the club hosted the 22hour open competition to help raise funds for Haylands farm in Ryde. Thanks to the many anglers and sponsors the event received a total of £1000 which was presented last week by members of Ventnor’s committee.

Newport social club open competition




Dave Jones picked up £180 last Sunday in the Newport social club open competition.  Jones a carpenter from Sandown usually fishes Dunrowmans beach but decided to fish the back of the Wight and landed a Bass of 11lb 4-1/4oz and a 3lb 14oz Cod. John Cavnor had the only large Flounder bag with six fish totalling 10lb 8-1/4oz taking the second prize of £90 and the second sweep with a fish of 2lb 6-1/2oz. The £60 third place prize went to Andy Wenden with two Bass and a Wrasse for 8lb 7oz. The best specimen went to Steve Cooke with a Flounder of 2lb 7-1/2oz. No ladies or juniors weighed in so the prizes were held over for the next competition.
