Ventnor All Night Open

      

Spencer Simpson landed two Conger Eels in Ventnor angling clubs all-night competition last week and walked away with 5 prizes. His best Conger of 56lb 3-1/2oz was only 8lb short of the island record and took the heaviest fish, best specimen and the Derek Perfect memorial rod sponsored by Greys. Mike Downs of Wight Aerials and Pete Campbell put up a first prize of £300 which Simpson also won with his total weight of 82lb 15-1/2oz and he shared the pairs sweep with his son Xavier. The Greys for the best Bass went to Rudi Etches with a fish of 4lb 14-1/2oz and the best Ray was won with a Spotted landed by Martin Butchers. A £50 prize donated by Garreth Butt went to Max Sampson as the first junior with 6lb 2-1/4oz and Ventnor ASC member Debbie Burt won the £50 ladies prize from Islandwide garage doors with 8lb 1-1/2oz. The second place prize of £200 went to Shaun Graham who also received £50 for the best placed VASC member. First pick of the table prizes went to Martin Pressey with 25lb 14oz Followed by Russell Catling with 25lb 12oz. 135 anglers entered the competition, 51 returned fish and 40 received prizes thanks to sponsorship from Ventnor Brewery, Scotties and Stuarts Bait & tackle.
