14 year old Daryl Garrett from Ryde recorded the capture of a Sting ray last week which tipped the scales at 35lb 8oz. Daryl who attends Ryde High School was fishing from Ryde Pier with his father Drew and friends when his line went slack and when he tightened it realised he was in to a good fish. Thinking he had a Smoothound Daryl played the fish letting it run and only realised he had a Sting Ray when his Dad was trying to get it in his landing net. Once the fish was weighed and photographed it was returned to the sea alive and well. As far as I am aware this is the biggest fish from Ryde pier and the best Sting Ray by a junior on the Island
